Johnson Consulting and Williams Architects were hired by the Department of Public Works and the Purchasing Agent of the Town of Barnstable to analyze the feasibility of a new Hyannis Youth & Community Center (HY&CC) facility in the Village of Hyannis, Massachusetts. The consulting team was responsible for preparing a feasibility study, market analysis, needs assessment, and operations/business plan for the proposed facility.
With the creation of the Hyannis Youth & Community Center, the Barnstable Recreation Division of the Community Services Department, desired to improve the quality of life throughout the community by providing exceptional recreation and leisure activities at the proposed facility. The plan called for demolition of the existing LT Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Memorial Skating Rink complex and construction of the new HY&CC facility at the same location.
The new HY&CC facility encompasses 114,000 square feet to include a gymnasium, two ice skating rinks, lockers and bleacher seating for both the gymnasium and the skating rink, offices, public meeting rooms, breakout game/dance rooms, a pro shop, video arcade, computer center, and parking, among others.
