The City of Ocala was approached by a Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise to potentially relocate one of their minor league teams to Ocala. The City of Ocala did not have a suitable, existing baseball facility and needed a consultant to provide direction. Ultimately, The City of Ocala engaged Johnson Consulting to conduct a four-phase independent study of the proposed minor league baseball stadium. Our report consisted of a market and site analysis, financial parameters, stadium size, facility cost and the economic impact of the project both quantitatively and qualitatively to determine whether or not the City could support a minor league baseball team.
Johnson Consulting’s straightforward analysis highlighted market opportunity and the demographic attributes of Ocala as being the key factor for success of the proposed minor league baseball stadium and compared those attributes to other successful minor league locales. Another important consideration for the project was how to leverage the development of a minor league ballpark that induces future development around the ballpark.
